Rotary Illawarra - Where R4R All Began

11 Feb 2021

Ride4Rotary Illawarra was the brainchild of 2 Illawarra Rotarians in late 2013.

The concept of a cycling event to raise finds for vulnerable and disadvantaged youth was born with the first R4R Illawarra taking place on 2014 raising $4,000 and fetauring 25 riders.

Operating as the Combined Rotary Clubs of the Illawarra and featuring 6 of the 9 local Rotary Clubs, the organisers created a committee and selected local charity, Southern Youth and Family Services (SYFS) as a benficiary of funds raised.

5 years later, after 6 consecutive annual events, a total of $93,000 has been raised for SYFS and in 2019 an agreement was formalised linking Rotary Illawarra and SYFS in partnership to this event exclusively.

The highest event fund total was $22,000 in both 2018 and 2019 with the 2020 event regrettably cancelled due to COVID-19.

The good news though is that Ride4Rotary is back at the Unanderra Velodrome this May 23rd, bigger and better than ever, proudly supported by BluescopeWIN Community Partnerships as Major Event Sponsors.

With a new website, increased local media and local business support, great prizes on offer and even a Virtual Ride option out 2021 fundrasing target is $40,000 and we need need your help to raise much needed funds for youth at risk across the Illawarra and South Coast.
